| TEMPORARY LIFTING OF STOPPAGE OF DIRECT MEMBERSHIP ADMISSION |
Temporary Lifting of Stoppage of Direct Membership Admission Preamble: Council reviewed the continuous clamour for the lifting of stoppage of direct membership admission by a lot of stakeholders. Particularly of interest is the need to bring on board as many stakeholders as possible to ease the commencement of the full implementation of CITN’s Charter. Council, apart from noting the fact that the Institute requires the hands of fellowship of stakeholders in order to effectively achieve the aims of professionalizing taxation practice in Nigeria, also intends to douse the tension in the air regarding the stoppage of direct membership admission particularly with regards to old practitioners who are presently not within the CITN family. Modalities for Direct Membership Admission In view of the foregoing, Council in its meeting of Thursday June 3, 2010, has approved the following modalities for Direct Membership Admission: 1. ICAN members who became members of ICAN by 31st December, 2009 with evidence of at least one year pre or post membership experience in taxation work. 2. ANAN members who became members of ANAN by 31st December, 2008, with evidence of at least two years pre or post membership experience in taxation work. In addition to holding ANAN membership, the applicant must hold Bachelor of Science or Higher National Diploma. 3. Lawyers who had been called to Bar by 31st December, 2007 with evidence of at least three years pre or post membership experience in taxation work. 4. Members of staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) not below Assistant Manager cadre or their States’ counterparts who had attained the cadre of Senior Inspector of Taxes (grade level 10 and above) as at 31st December, 2009. Other conditions to be noted are: i. All prospective applicants should download Membership application form using the link below and submit the completed form at the Secretariat of the Institute at Lagos (3rd and 4th Floor, 11 Ikorodu Road, Opposite Krestal Laurel, Maryland, Lagos) or its Abuja Liaison office (1, Bechar Street, Off Mambolo Street, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, Nigeria) with application form fee of N10,000.00 (Ten thousand naira only) payable directly into Account No. 4482030003995 in any branch of First Bank Nigeria Plc nationwide. The ORIGINAL COPY OF TELLER should be attached to the application form. ii. All successful applicants would undergo a 3-day intensive special orientation programme whose attendance and evidence of active participation would determine the final approval and eventual induction as a bonafide member of the Institute. The fee for the 3-day intensive special orientation programme and the Induction shall be N150,000.00 (One hundred and fifty thousand naira only). This amount becomes payable after due approval of application has been granted by Council. iii. The application must be received within one year from the date of lifting the embargo on direct membership admission by Council, i.e., on or before June 2, 2011; and iv. Any offer of admission not taken up within one year of approval by Council shall lapse.
